The Musicians

Shenzo Gregorio – Violin & Mandolin

 

Shenzo has performed in Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Russia, USA, Brazil, Turkey, France, Scotland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Germany, Czech Republic,  The Netherlands, India, The UAE,  and extensively throughout Queensland and major population centres of Australia. 

 

He's recorded on some 50 + albums and received various awards for his work. Golden Fiddle award for best band - Fourplay String Quartet.  Best of the Fringe award at the 2002 Adelaide Fringe festival. Aria award winner for his work on Monsieur Camembert's 3rd album and Three Helpmann award nomination for his work with Adelaide Circus Company - Gravity and other Myths. 

Andre Bonetti – Cimbalom

 

Andre plays the rarely seen and heard in Australia instrument, the Cimbalom. He travelled to Budapest to undertake extensive study and lessons from masters of the instrument. He is now renowned nationally as an expert of the Cimbalom, performing multiple times at the National Folk Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Brisbane Festival and Qld Multicultural Festival along with as a soloist with Qld Symphony Orchestra. He leads the highly successful group, Greshka.

Catharina Kemp – Clarinet

 

Catharina is a devotee of Klezmer, Eastern European and Choro styles having studied at the University of New South Wales with Eddie Bronson of Monsieur Camembert fame. She is the musical director and driving force of Zenekar having put the band together and arranged much of the group's material.

John Reeves – Accordion

John is a Jazz Accordionist, Piano player and composer. He trained at the Royal College of Music in piano and is self taught on accordion. John's music is inspired by Jazz, French and African music. John travelled to Ghana in 2007 on a grant to study music and dance. Bridging cultures and styles through improvisation is at the core of John's work. Music as a search for freedom. 

Samuel Vincent – Double Bass

 

Sam was a permanent member of legendary Brisbane ensemble Doch along with other groups such as Laique and currently performs with world music ensemble Estampa. He has toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally with the highly successful jazz trio Trichotomy (formerly called Misinterprotato).

Dave Kemp – Percussion & Compositions

 

Dave is a multi-instrumentalist percussionist who has a wide range of performance experience from the Qld Symphony Orchestra, through musicals such as The Lion King, to playing drums for rock groups such as The Francis Wolves and Lovers of Modern Art. In Zenekar, he primarily plays hand percussion including Darabuka, Cajon and Pandeiro along with composing the original material the group performs inspired by Eastern European folk melodies and rhythms.
